Although it
was going to be built in Santander, it was finally raised
in the Marquis's hometown. It was based on the idea of a
column mounted on the shape of ship's keel from
Cristóbal Cascante's project. The maritime décor motifs
and the allegories of The Antilles and The Philippines
refer to the maritime business of this indiano. |
