JIANYI ZHANG VISITS THE IBBTEC

We welcomed Dr. Jianyi Zhang (University of Alabama, Birmingham) as a Guest Speaker in the IBBTEC Seminar Series.

Dr. Zhang’s is Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at UAB and an internationally recognized leader in cardiovascular regenerative medicine and cardiac tissue engineering.

His research addresses one of the most significant challenges in cardiovascular medicine: the heart’s limited capacity to regenerate following injury, particularly after myocardial infarction. By integrating engineering, stem cell biology, and cardiovascular medicine, Dr. Zhang and his team are developing innovative regenerative strategies aimed at repairing damaged heart tissue and restoring cardiac function, with the ultimate goal of moving beyond the management of heart disease toward meaningful cardiac regeneration.

ALESSANDRO BERTERO VISITS THE IBBTEC

We welcomed Dr. Alessandro Bertero (University of Torino) as a Guest Speaker in the IBBTEC Seminar Series.

Dr. Bertero’s research combines genomics, stem cell biology, and regenerative medicine to better understand heart disease and develop innovative approaches for cardiac repair and tissue regeneration. More recently, his work has expanded to explore how advances in cell engineering can enable the large-scale production of animal-derived tissues for human consumption.
