LIFE-2-ACID Project Meeting

Last July 13, 2018, Prof. Ane Urtiaga and Andrea Arguillarena participated in the follow-up meeting of project LIFE-2-ACID , that took place in the facilities of AIDIMME (Valencia).

Project partners presented the progress in the project activities. So far, the baseline for the recovery of zinc and iron form spent acids generated in galvanizing facilities has been developed. Moreover, the demonstration units for the selective membrane based purification of the spent acid and zinc electro-winning have been designed and their construction is in progress. Furthermore the Life cycle inventory of the hot dip galvanizing process has been obtained.

Project results have been disseminated in the scientific congress Euromembrane 2018 (Valencia, July 9-13) through the following communications presented by UC and UPV:

  • Membrane based liquid extraction as key technology for secondary zinc recovery from spent pickling baths
  • Scale up of a membrane electrochemical reactor for zinc recovery from spent pickling baths

LIFE-2-ACID project (LIFE16 ENV/ES/000242) is funded by the European Union through LIFE program.
