The researchers of the Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering Department are currently working on the organization of the activities for the celebration of the Science Week, that in this edition 2020, is taking place virtually from 9 to 20 november.

The excellence network E3TECH is organizing the  I Jornadas de Difusión Científica “La tecnología electroquímica al servicio de la Sociedad: aplicaciones en medio ambiente y energía”, that is taking place next October 26 – 27, 2020, in a virtually mode.

Raquel Ibañez, full professor of Chemical Engineering, will act as round table coordinator in the Congress Iberquimia 2020, in the session dedicated to energy efficiency. The conference will take place in Bilbao next October 28, 2020.

Alfredo Ortiz and Víctor Manuel Maestre attended the follow-up meeting of the european project SUDOE ENERGY PUSH, that took place in La Rochelle (France) last october 14-16, 2020. During the meeting all partners presented their last outcomes in the frame of the project. Alfredo and Víctor talked about their actions in the workpackage 3.

Irina Grosei, student of the Master in Chemical Engineering (UC-UPV/EHU) is developing the curricular internship of the master in the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department of the University of Cantabria under the supervision of Prof. Raquel Ibáñez.

Sergio Valentín Gutierrez, student of the Master in Chemical Engineering (UC-UPV/EHU) is developing the curricular internship of the master in the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department of the University of Cantabria under the supervision of Prof. Ane Urtiaga and Dr. Gabriel Zarca.

The scientific work “Vapor-liquid equilibria and diffusion coefficients of difluoromethane, 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane and 2,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene in low viscosity ionic liquids, developed by Salvador Asensio, Fernando Pardo, Gabriel Zarca and Ana María Urtiaga, has been published in the Journal of Chemical & Engineering Data. Moreover, one of the figures of the paper was selected as one of the cover images, specifically the bottom-left one.

Fernando Pardo has started a postdoctoral research stay in the Faculty of Science and Technology of the Universidade Nova  de Lisboa (Portugal), in the research group leaded by Dr. Ana B. Pereiro. During the period September-December 2020 he will be working on the development of separation process for the recovery and recycling of refrigerant fluorinated gases.

Fernando Pardo holds a postdoctoral position in the Department of Chemical andBiomolecular Engineering of the University of Cantabria, granted by the Juan de la Cierva Formación program of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation.

The Chemical Engineer Lien Ester Gallart has recently joined the Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering Department of the University of Cantabria, where she is working on the research project “Aplicación de tecnologías ambientales a matrices líquidas conteniendo contaminantes orgánicos emergentes precursores de la formación de derivados clorados (PCDD/FS) (CTM2017-87740-R)  (AEI/FEDER,UE)”, led by Dr. María Fresnedo San Román.

Saúl Laguillo Revuelta defended his doctorate tesis “Numerical modeling of chemical reaction processes describing methane combustión in gas cooking burners”, developed in the Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering Department of the University of Cantabria and in the Company BSH Electrodomésticos España S.L., under the supervision of Dr. Alfredo Ortiz (UC) and Dr. Jose Salvador Ochoa (BSH). The thesis has industrial doctorate mention. The academic event took place on October 9^th, 2020, at 11:00 h, in the conference room of the ETSIIT of the University of Cantabria. The evaluation committee was formed by Prof. Ignacio Fernández Olmo (University of Cantabria), Prof. Norberto Fueyo (University of Zaragoza) and Prof. Luis Gandía (Public University of Navarra).
