Electrochemistry Congress and meeting of the Excellence Network E3TECH

Prof. Ane Urtiaga participated in the XXXIX Meeting of the Electrochemistry Group of the RSEQ and 3rd E3 Mediterranean symposium Electrochemistry for Environment and Energy, with the talk “Progress in the electrochemical degradation of poly- and perfluorinated compounds”. The conference took place in Madrid, from 2 to 5 of July, 2018.

On July 4th, the meeting of the Network of Excellence E3TECH Environmental and Energy Applications of Electrochemical Technology, took place. The funding of the network has been renewed by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, with the reference CTQ2017-90659-REDT. The picture shows the participants in the meeting.

XXXV Jornadas Nacionales de Ingeniería Química

Members of the Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering Department attended the 35th Meeting of Chemical Engineering in Salamanca from 4-6, July 2018.

The students of the Chemical Engineering degree  Carlota Guati and Salvador Asensio and the student of the master degree Jose Manuel Vadillo presented their posters and flash oral presentations with great success.

Prof. Inmaculada Ortiz took part in the round table of State of the Art in Chemical Engineering introducing the progress made on Membrane Technology. Prof. Juan José Rodríguez (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid), Prof. Antonio Monzón (Universidad de Zaragoza), Prof. Gumersindo Feijoo (Universidad de Santiago de Compostela) and Prof. José Mario Díaz (Universidad de Oviedo), and authorities of USAL, also participated in the Round Table.

Prof. Angel Irabien presented the forthcoming ANQUE International Congress that will take place in Santander from July 19th-July 21st 2019

It’s been a very remarkable participation of the UC Chemical Engineering team.

FOLLOW-UP MEETING OF HYLANTIC PROJECT

Inmaculada Ortiz, Alfredo Ortiz and Gema Pérez attended the first follow-up meeting of the european project Atlantic Network for Renewable Generation and Supply of Hydrogen to promote high energy efficiency – HYLANTIC, celebrated in Dublin, on July 3rd, 2018. During the meeting, eleven partners of different institutions of the atlantic área, presented their progresses in the project and discussed about the future actions to be done before the next meeting that will take place in the University of Brest (France) next November 2018.

PEMFC SUDOE Project – Advocacy Bootcamp

Alfredo Ortiz, as coordinator of the european project “Energetic Sustainability at the Sudoe region: PEMFC-SUDOE network, attended the 2018 Advocacy Boot Camp celebrated in Faro (Portugal), on June 28 – 29, 2018. The aim of the event was to train partners in the promotion and lobbying in the marketing and capitalization actions of on-going Interreg-Sudoe projects. The participants were trained in specific strategies, political influence, storytelling and digital communication.

WELCOME SUMMER

On June 27th, the Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering Departament organized a  track through Monte Buciero in Santoña, a social activity to welcome the summer season. After the track all participants had lunch together in Santoña and enjoy the afternoon sharing their experiences during the walk.

CONGRESS: WHEC 2018 – June 17 – 22, 2018

Alfredo Ortiz and Daniel Gorri attended the 22nd World Hydrogen Energy Conference (WHEC2018), celebrated in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) last June 17-22,2018, where they presented the works “Contribution of upcycling surplus hydrogen to design a sustainable supply chain: The case study of Northern Spain”.

 

 

PhD. THESIS DEFENSE – June 20th, 2018

Antoniel Carlos Carolino Campos defended his doctorate thesis “Poly(urethane-urea) composite membranes with Ag Np/activator and AgBF4/BMImBF4 systems for light olefins/paraffins separations”, developed in the Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering Department of the University of Cantabria (Spain) and in the Instituto de Química of the Universidades do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). The event took place in Rio de Janeiro  last June 20th. Dr. Alfredo Ortiz and Dr. Daniel Gorri, on behalf of the Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering Department, attended the defense.

The evalution committe was formed by Prof. Dr. Rodrigo Azevedo dos Reis (UERJ), Dr. Alfredo Ortiz (UC), Dr. Daniel Gorri (UC), Prof. Dr. Márcio Luis Lyra Paredes (PPGEQ/IQ/UERJ), Prof. Dr. Alberto Claudio Habert (PEQ/COPPE/UFRJ), Prof. Dr. Helen Conceição Ferraz (PEQ/COPPE/UFRJ) and Prof. Dr. Karim Dahmouche (IMA/UFRJ).

RESEARCH VISIT: Dr. Lucía Gómez – June 18-22, 2018

Dr. Lucía Gómez, researcher of GRADISAL Project at the Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering Department of the University of Cantabria, visited the Electrochemistry and Corrosion Resarch Group of the Polytechnic University of Valencia. During her visit, from June 18th to 22nd, 2018, she had the opportunity of being trained in membrane characterization by using electrochemical techniques, under the supervision of Prof. Valentin Perez Herranz.

DOCTORATE SEMINARS – June 14-15, 2018

The Chemical, Energy and Process Engineering Doctorate program organized the annual Doctorate seminars. The aim of the seminar is to promote the training of PhD students and disseminate their research activities. The seminar, open to the members of the doctorate program and to general public, included the assessment of the doctorate students’ progress by the academic panel of supervisors. The event took place last June 14th and 15th, 2018, in lecture room #03 of the ETSIIT (UC) and was structured in the following sections:

SPORTS AWARDS 2018

Alba Romano won the silver medal in the 2017-2018 Torneo Campeón de Centros in Women´s Badminton competition, representing the ETSIIT of the  University of Cantabria. Alba Romano is Master in Chemical Engineering and she is currently enrolled in the doctorate program in Chemical, Energy and Process Engineering of the UC.
