Casona de Mazarrasa (Villaverde de Pontones) |
The
visit starts off in the area of the old-style Ribamontán
Junta, which is nowadays split into two districts: Ribamontán
al Monte and Ribamontán al Mar. The Ribamontán
al Mar district on the coast of Trasmiera has
churches dating from the 16th century to the 18th. They
are simple buildings, generally with only one nave and a
polygonal or rectangular apse. Of all of them, perhaps
the most interesting is the parish church of Galizano, a
late Gothic work of the 16th century, in which the
Renaissance chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary stands out.
In Loredo, there is the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Latas, a
place of great devotion for the locals. As for lay
architecture, the La Roza family´s ancestral casona
in Carriazo stands out. South of this district is Ribamontán al Monte, which has important samples of religious architecture dating from the Middle Ages (late Gothic gateway of the parish church of Omoño) to the 18th century. There are also valuable samples of lay architecture, such as the casonas of Mazarrasa and Cagigal in Villaverde de Pontones; the palaces of Cagigal, Movellán, Rigada (currently a Carmelite convent) among others in Hoz de Anero -a town were there is a neighbourhood of eight casonas moved from diverse points of northern Spain- and the casona of Puente Liermo in Omoño, and, finally, the ensemble of casona and chapel of Ceballos in Cubas. |
