LAGUC, committed to Research

LAGUC actively collaborates in the development of different research projects as experimental support of Construction Technology Applied Research Group GITECO, apart from collaborating with other research groups of the University of Cantabria.

  • CONSTRUCTION OF NEW PAVEMENT STRUCTURES

New applications in geosynthetic materials for their use in the strengthening of pavements

  • CONSTRUCTION OF SUSTAINABLE DRAINAGE SYSTEMS

Research and development of new applications of geosynthetics materials for their use in SUDS.

Featured Projects

Now, the projects whose experimental part has been completely or partially performed in LAGUC, other projects of basic research or research applied in the field of geosynthetics are listed:

  • Research about Hydrological Rehabilitation of Urban Road Infrastructures (project RHIVU in Spanish, of the national research plan 2013-2016).
  • Rehabilitation of Roads and Highways (project REHABCAR, without the subprogramme INNPACTO of the Science and Innovation Ministry, 2010-2013).
  • Design, research of the implementation and instrumentation of a parking lot built with pervious pavement increasing hydrocarbon biodegradation (SODERCAN, Dec. 2006 - Dec. 2008).
  • Surveillance of level and quality of the stormwater collected through permeable pavements with concrete blocks and geotextiles (FORMPAVE Ltd., Oct. 2006 - Feb. 2010).
  • Design, materials characterization and setting up procedure of an antireflection of cracks systems with geosynthetics in bituminous pavements (SAFI project, Feb. 2005-Feb.2008).
  • Development and innovation in the strengthening of bituminous mixtures with geosynthetics (SODERCAN, May. 2006 - May. 2007).

Collaborations with other research groups

LAGUC has supported other research groups of the University of Cantabria in order to perform different tests:

  • LADICIM
  • Assigned to the Science and Soil Engineering and Materials Department: degradation of rail fastening pads.

  • GIADE
  • From the Structures and Mechanical Department: test of determination of water absorption in materials for the piping of waste water.

  • Geothecnics Group
  • Assigned to the Science and Soil Engineering and Materials Department: tensile and peel testing in geosynthetic barriers of clay.

  • Hydraulic Institute
  • Tests for the determination of characteristic opening size, permeability and thickness of a woven textile used to confine sand bags used for coastal protection.
